aptain Robert A. Wood is a native of Valdosta, Georgia, and a graduate of Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colorado, California State University at Sacramento, the U.S. Naval War College of Command and Staff, the National Defense University – Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and Texas Christian University. He was commissioned in 1980, and had over nine years prior enlisted service in both the Air Force and Navy. He had assignments in support of Fleet Intelligence Center Pacific, two tours as a Squadron Intelligence Officer in A-7 Corsair II squadrons, extended temporary duty in support of counter-narcotics operations at Joint Task Force Four and Joint Task Force Five, and as Reserve Intelligence Program Officer – Area 2. He had two deployments to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf, one as Assistant Intelligence Officer aboard USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) and the other as Intelligence Officer aboard USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63). Captain Wood was also assigned as Assistant Force Intelligence Officer and Intelligence Reserve Liaison Officer for Commander, Naval Air Forces, U.S. Pacific, as the Attaché Placement Officer and Full Time Support Intelligence Officer Detailer, Navy Personnel Command, as Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence for Commander Naval Reserve Forces Command, and as Deputy Commander, Navy Reserve Intelligence Command at NAS/JRB Ft Worth. Captain Wood retired from active duty in February 2009.
Following his retirement, Captain Wood became active in military support charities in the Fort Worth area, and is currently an Advisor to the Board of Directors for the Fort Worth Air Power Council and Air Power Foundation, is a member of the Skyball Planning Committee, and is a former Director on the Snowball Express Board of Directors. Formerly the Dean of Students at Bethesda Christian School in Fort Worth, he currently does guest lectures and substitute teaching at several private schools in the area. As his “fun retirement job,” Captian Wood works in support of Texas Christian University Game Operations during the football season.
Captain Wood is a Vietnam Era veteran, and participated in Operation Just Cause in Panama, Operation Provide Hope in Somalia, Operation Desert Storm and Operation Southern Watch in the Arabian Gulf, and in Operation Noble Eagle and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Captain Wood’s awards include the Legion of Merit (2 awards), Meritorious Service Medal (3 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (2 awards), Air Force Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (2 awards), and numerous service and campaign awards and commendations.
Married to the former Mary Frances Albanesi of Washington, DC, Captain Wood resides in Aledo, Texas.
