From Nov 7th through Nov 11th of 2014, American Airlines Veterans Initiatives, MGM Resorts International, the USO, and the Airpower Foundation hosted 80 Wounded Veterans and their significant other to a four day Veteran’s Day weekend celebration in Las Vegas for our 5th Annual ‘Salute to the Troops’. For the fifth year in a row, American Airlines donated a special charter aircraft, which was flown by an all volunteer flight crew of pilots and flight attendants to pick up these wounded warriors and their guests from Ft. Belvior and Bethesda / Walter Reed Medical centers, and flew them to Las Vegas where MGM Resorts International rolled out the red carpet for the Veteran’s arrival at the Mirage Hotel; a place they would call home for the next 4 days. Through the coordination efforts of Ms Morgan Popalaski and her team, MGM opened up numerous other Las Vegas Properties to the Wounded Warriors with class and dignity, showing why they are the best hosts in the World! Partners and friends of AA and the Airpower Foundation who made the weekend an absolute success were the USO, Greyhound, Sundance Helicopters, Freemont Street Experience, Las Vegas Indoor Skydiving, Las Vegas Police and Fire Departments, the USO Liberty Belles, the Gary Sinise Foundation, Phil Vandel Band, and our special celebrity friends Christopher Cross, Rich Little, Terry Fator and Gary Sinise who respectively donated special performances for the Veterans and their guests.
