We encourage all Veterans and survivors to file for benefits now. VBA started to process PACT Act-related benefits in January 2023. If you apply for benefits before August 10, 2023, and your claim is granted, your benefits may be backdated to the date of the bill signing.

Have you visited va.gov/PACT to see if you or your members may be eligible for medical care and disability compensation?

Did you file a previous benefits claim with VBA only to be told that certain diseases/illnesses did not qualify for service connection? Those previously denied conditions may now be service connected under the PACT Act! Veterans who have previously been denied a toxic-exposure related claim are encouraged to file a supplemental claim. The VA will then review the claim under the new law.

Question: How does a Veteran get screened to determine if their diseases/illnesses fall under the PACT Act?

Answer: Get screened by VHA. Veterans already enrolled in VA health care can start the screening process with their primary care providers at their next appointment or by request. The first two phases of the screening process can even be done on the telephone or virtually. If a Veteran is not currently enrolled in VA health care, they can call 1-800-MyVA411 (1-800-698-2411), follow the prompts, speak to a live operator, and get connected to the local servicing VA health care system’s PACT Act coordinator.

Certified North Texas Veteran service officers at the state, county, and city levels, in addition to many other Veteran-centric organizations like DAV, VFW, and American Legion can assist you in filing a supplemental claim for VA benefits or start a new claim based on your PACT Act screenings.

Take charge of your health and get connected with the VA health care benefits that you have already owned through selfless service.

More information for Veterans and their survivors can be found at va.gov/PACT or by calling 1-800-MyVA411 (1-800-698-2411).
