Medal of Honor Portrait Series

the epitome of courage, sacrifice, and selflessness

Honoring our Medal of Honor recipients is essential as they represent the epitome of courage, sacrifice, and selflessness. These brave men and women have demonstrated extraordinary valor in the face of extreme danger, often risking their lives to protect others. By recognizing their bravery, we not only pay tribute to their individual acts of heroism but also acknowledge the ideals of courage and patriotism they embody. Honoring our Medal of Honor recipients serves as a powerful reminder of the values that make our nation strong and resilient.

Photojournalist, 7-Time Military Photographer of the Year, and great friend to the Airpower Foundation Jeremy Lock had a vision many years ago to capture portraits of our nation’s Medal of Honor Recipients. We are so proud to host this project each year at Sky Ball to honor these heroes. Jeremy’s portraits have been used by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and at many funerals for our Medal of Honor Recipients that have since passed. Sharing the stories of the brave men and women that achieve our nation’s highest award for valor is a privilege, and we are so thankful that Jeremy chooses to partner with us year after year.

For the past 25 years, photojournalist and now retired (2013) military photographer Jeremy Lock directed his lens towards the elements of the world that many of us will never have the opportunity or even the desire to see first hand.  His images are beautiful, heartbreaking, provocative and devastating – sometimes all in the same frame.

He is specially trained to shoot from the air and under the sea. He is the sole military photographer to be recognized seven times as the best in the business (Military Photographer of the Year, 2002, ’05, ’06, ’08, ’10, ’11, ‘12).
